A promising new technology that scientists have been studying for years is harnessing the energy of cyanobacteria, who create their own energy through photosynthesis and maintain a charge.  Cyanobacteria is what creates the more well-known blue-green algae.  These advances are viewed as potential for batteries for small devices and wearables, and they can be printed on paper!  It’s already been done. Scientists Print Living Solar Cells That Retain Energy On Paper

Solar panels are a great renewable power source for homes and office buildings, but they can be overkill for smaller devices. Wearables and clothing can benefit more from kinetic energy, and we’ve seen carbon nanotubes in yarn being stretched out to produce electricity. That same material has now been used with cyanobacteria to create micro-solar panels.
